**Extension hair and its attachments need separate care.** Reuse depends on the condition of both, along with wear frequency, washing, heat styling and storage. No routine guarantees a fixed number of months. This guide focuses on avoiding preventable wear and knowing when to request a review.

## Wash according to your method and routine

Follow the care instructions for the supplied hair and attachment system. Removable clip-ins generally need washing based on use and product build-up; continuously worn extensions also need a routine appropriate for the scalp. A universal once- or twice-weekly limit is not suitable for every wearer.

Use compatible shampoo and conditioner, handle the hair gently and avoid twisting or scrubbing attachment points. Keep heavy conditioners and oils away from tape tabs or bonds unless your fitting specialist advises otherwise. Ask how to dry the attachment areas for your method.

## Detangle without pulling on attachments

Work from the ends upward in manageable sections, supporting the hair near clips or attachments. Use an extension-friendly brush or the tool recommended for your set. If hair repeatedly mats or an attachment pulls, seek advice rather than forcing a brush through it.

## Limit heat and check styling guidance

Follow the supplier’s temperature and heat-protection instructions. Keep hot tools away from clips, tape tabs, rings and other attachments. Avoid repeatedly using higher heat to manage hair that is becoming dry or difficult to detangle; request advice about its condition instead.

## Separate clip-in storage from fitted-hair care

Remove clip-ins before sleeping, swimming or activities for which the product is not intended. Store them fully dry and detangled, with clips closed, away from moisture and direct sunlight. For fitted extensions, ask about the appropriate overnight arrangement and ensure the hair and attachments are cared for as instructed.

## Discuss swimming before choosing a method

Tell your fitting specialist if you swim regularly. Ask about compatibility with your proposed attachment, preparation before swimming and care afterwards. Do not assume a fixed number of minutes in the water is safe, or that a different attachment eliminates the need for care.

## Book maintenance before problems develop

Your natural hair grows while fitted attachments remain in place. Agree a review interval with your stylist and arrange an earlier check for slippage, tangling or discomfort. Do not attempt to pull out fitted extensions yourself.

Ask for the current maintenance and removal quote rather than relying on a legacy price. See [salon information](/in-salon-services/) or [contact us](/contact/). For the distinction between hair reuse and fitting intervals, read [how long extensions last](/how-long-do-hair-extensions-last-australia/).

## When is it time to replace the hair?

Persistent tangling, breakage or damaged clips and attachments need assessment. Some hair can be reused with replacement attachments; other sets may need replacing. The decision should depend on condition rather than a promised number of refits.

Use our [daily care checklist](/caring-for-premium-quailty-human-hair-extensions/), or [request a consultation](/book-appointment/) if you need advice about fitted hair. Seek medical advice for unexplained shedding or scalp symptoms.
