What are hair extensions?
Hair extensions add length, volume and colour using strands of additional hair attached to your own. The single biggest quality factor is the hair itself. Original Diva uses 100% human hair, carefully selected and processed, so the hair stays smooth, tangle-resistant and natural-looking, and can be washed, heat-styled, curled and coloured just like your own.
Premium and silicone-free hair
Cheaper “human hair” is often heavily coated in silicone to feel smooth in the packet. After a few washes the coating wears off and the hair turns dry and matted. Original Diva hair is premium and silicone-free, so what you feel is the true quality of the hair — not a temporary coating.
The four main extension methods
1. Clip-in extensions
Wefts of hair with small clips you attach yourself in minutes.
- Pros: No commitment, no appointment, completely DIY, reusable for years, zero damage, easy to remove for sleeping or sport.
- Cons: Worn for the day rather than left in; not a “set and forget” permanent look.
- Best for: Beginners, events, part-time volume and length. Shop clip-in extensions.
2. Tape extensions
Thin wefts attached with a gentle medical-grade adhesive that sandwiches small sections of your hair.
- Pros: Sit flat and invisible, very natural, comfortable, quick to apply, reusable; gentle on fine hair.
- Cons: Need a salon move-up every 6–8 weeks as hair grows.
- Best for: Fine to medium hair wanting a discreet, low-maintenance permanent option. Tape extensions in Sydney.
3. Weft extensions
A long strip (weft) of hair anchored with beads — no glue or heat.
- Pros: Maximum volume and thickness with fewer pieces, secure, no heat or glue.
- Cons: Needs professional installation and periodic maintenance.
- Best for: Thicker hair, or anyone wanting full, voluminous results. Shop weft extensions.
4. Micro ring (I-Tip) extensions
Individual strands threaded through small beads and clamped close to the scalp.
- Pros: No glue, heat or chemicals — one of the gentlest methods; reusable beads; very natural movement.
- Cons: Application is more time-intensive; needs maintenance every few months.
- Best for: Clients wanting a flexible, low-damage, long-term option. Shop micro ring extensions.

How to choose the right extensions
Ask yourself four questions: How much commitment do you want? (Clip-ins for flexibility; tape/weft/micro ring for permanent.) What’s your hair type? (Fine hair suits tape and clip-in; thicker hair suits weft.) What’s your goal — length, volume or both? What’s your budget and maintenance appetite? If you’re unsure, a consultation and a colour match will point you to the right method and shade.
Colour matching
The most natural results come from a precise colour match — and often a custom blend of two shades. Original Diva offers free online colour matching before you buy, plus in-person matching at the Sydney salon.
The premium hair care routine
Good care is what makes premium hair last. Follow this routine:
- Brush gently: Use a soft loop or paddle brush, starting at the ends and working up. Hold the root of permanent extensions to avoid tugging.
- Wash less, wash right: Use a sulphate-free, hydrating shampoo and conditioner. Keep conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends, never the bonds or tapes.
- Heat protect: Always use a heat protectant before straightening or curling, and keep tools to a moderate temperature.
- Sleep smart: Never sleep on wet hair. Tie hair in a loose plait or low pony to prevent tangling.
- Swimming: Rinse before and after pools or the ocean, and tie hair up to avoid chlorine and salt damage.
- Hydrate: Use a light leave-in or hair oil through the ends (avoiding the attachment points) to keep the hair soft.
Salon installation vs online
Clip-ins are designed for DIY at home. Tape, weft and micro ring extensions last longest and look best when professionally fitted. Original Diva is unusual in offering both — buy premium hair online, or have it expertly installed at the Hunters Hill salon.
Frequently asked questions
Which hair extensions are best for fine hair?
Clip-in and tape extensions are best for fine hair — they’re lightweight, sit flat and distribute weight gently. Micro ring can also work in smaller sections.
Do hair extensions damage your hair?
When applied and maintained correctly with quality hair, they shouldn’t. Clip-ins are completely non-damaging; tape and micro ring are gentle when fitted and removed by a specialist.
How long do hair extensions last?
Permanent methods last 6 weeks to 4 months per fitting depending on type, and the premium hair itself can be reused across multiple cycles with proper care.
What makes Original Diva’s hair high quality?
Original Diva uses premium 100% human hair that is silicone-free, so it stays smooth and natural without relying on a temporary coating that washes out.
Can I wash, straighten and curl my extensions?
Yes — 100% human hair can be washed, blow-dried, straightened and curled. Always use a heat protectant.
