Choosing Hair Extensions for Your Style & Routine

Choose for your hair, style and routine

The right extension choice balances the result you want with the weight your natural hair can support and the care you can maintain. Start with three questions: do you want fullness or length, temporary wear or a fitted method, and how much time can you give to application and aftercare?

Use our beginner guide for an introduction to costs and fitting. This guide focuses on matching the choice to your routine.

Temporary wear or professionally fitted hair?

Clip-ins are applied and removed at home and taken out before sleeping. They offer flexible wear when the clips and added weight suit the supporting hair. Compare one-piece and multi-piece sets for placement and coverage.

Tape, micro ring / I-Tip and weft extensions require professional installation, removal and maintenance. The attachment systems differ; none is automatically suitable for every hair type. Read the fitted-method comparison before booking.

Human hair and synthetic fibre have different care and styling requirements. Some synthetic products are heat-friendly within stated limits. Ask for the material and instructions instead of assuming every product behaves the same. See our material guide.

Match the product to your goal

  • Targeted fullness: compare coverage and placement, not just the total grams.
  • Added length: consider your natural cut and the amount needed for a convincing blend. A longer, heavier set is not always appropriate.
  • Occasional styling: allow time to practise applying and removing clip-ins before an event.
  • Everyday fitted hair: include maintenance appointments, removal and aftercare in the plan.

Fine hair and active hair loss need different assessments. If you have unexplained thinning or shedding, seek medical advice before adding extension weight. For healthy fine hair, an individual consultation can assess fitting suitability.

Plan the care before you buy

Detangle gently from the ends upward while supporting the hair near clips or attachments. Follow the product’s washing and heat guidance, and keep hot tools away from attachments. Ask which conditioners and oils are appropriate for a fitted method.

Remove clip-ins before sleep and store them fully dry. Fitted hair needs the review interval and overnight routine recommended for your installation. Read our care checklist and discuss swimming or frequent exercise before choosing a method.
